The Weekend with a Agenda

Saturday Morning Bike Ride View

Ritzzzzzzzzzzz!!!

The weekend was a roller coaster ride with a clear agenda this time – bike ride, movies & serials to be watched, good food to be eaten, beers & alco, Basketball & other sports, family time & general chilling… Friday began with a bang as the Miami Heat beat the Indiana Pacers in game 6 of their series. Lebron & Dwayne Wade played some inspired ball in this series. Post that, in the evening, kept it easy – watched Supernatural and called it a day. Saturday morning began with a bike ride past Marine Drive to Nariman Point twice over as the weather was spectacular and add to that there was zero traffic. Post which got home, made plans to go buy DVD‚Äôs; also by now had figured plans with Ritika to chill through the day at home, buy her phone and do some baking. Please note, the baking was being done by Rachita & Ritika who are both gifted cooks ūüôā .

Heat vs Pacers

Post going & buying oodles of DVDs with Mihir & Astro, came home & decided to go nowhere as the heat was killing. Decided after much debate to order Pizzas & Pastas from Karma, which were spectacular and were devoured in a matter of minutes. Post that had Sheesha & passed out while Ritika & Rachita baked the most amazing Lemon Tarts! After waking up, got Ritika‚Äôs phone delivered home, (yup this happens only in India type moment) where in you call a mobile seller tell him you want a XYZ mobile handset and want to sell your old handset; post pricing is agreed upon the guy delivers the phone home… Having said that, Ritika bought the Samsung Nexus which is an awesome phone. The evening was spent drinking beers with Vishal & cooking burgers; Bikes, Beers & Burgers is truly an amazing combination. The day was closed with another session of Supernatural.

Celtics vs Sixers

Budweiser!!!

Super Steak

Sunday morning was spent cleaning the bike; the same took a good hour also checked all the accessories like bags, foot rests, etc. to make sure everything is on track. Then watched Boston Celtics beat the Philadelphia 76ers in game 7 of the eastern conference playoffs. A note here, my Dad, Mihir & I have  been following the NBA for over 25 years &  totally love it.  Boston vs. Miami in the eastern conference finals is going to be one killer series. Having said that, Oklahoma City Thunder vs. San Antonio Spurs is also going to be a legendary series. Sunday also is Astro’s oil massage and bath day, so finished that & confirmed brunch at Smoke House Deli with Ritika, Mihir, Rachita & Yooti. The same had been planned on Saturday itself. Ate like we had never seen food Рbacon, fish, chicken, beef and beers were had I had an awesome steak, post which got home crashed. Woke up, decided to have an alcohol free evening, chilled for a bit, ate some Lemon tarts, helped the Mrs. with packing Pani Puri (Indian Street Food) for the in-laws then watched another episode of Supernatural. The IPL finals were also on where the Chennai Super Kings took on Kolkata Knight Riders. CSK was going for a 3peat while KKR was trying to win its first IPL Championship. Rachita & I are not big cricket fans and so we decided to watch a hindi movie. This was after we totally devoured the super awesome Pani Puris J. Watched the Karisma Kapoor starrer, Dangerous Ishq, which was decently interesting -seemed to be heavely inspired from the book, Many Lives Many Masters.

Bike Looking Cool Post Clean Up

All in all, the weekend which clearly had an agenda of bike ride, movies to be watched, serials to be watched, good food to be eaten, beers & alco, Basketball & other sports, family time & general chilling came to an end with each item being ticked off basis completion. This was like a mini bucket list, which was quite cool! Also to conclude KKR did win the IPL Finals & the San Antonio Spurs beat the Oklahoma City Thunder and lead the 7 game series 1-0. Writing this post made me realize how much I am already missing the weekend & how much I hate Mondays… Nonetheless, tonight there are leftover Burgers for dinner with fries so Monday might just not be all that bad ūüôā

Incidence & Coincidence

Friday evening, decided to go to the local drinking hole, Mini Club House with Mihir & Vishal; on reaching there, was told the place was shut and would open by 7pm. Oh! here i forgot to mention we went there by 4pm. Decided to dunk the idea of drinking out, saved some money and decided to drink at home. Bought Haywards 5000, went home, got shit-faced and closed the day.

St7 Totally Superb!

The Saturday morning bike ride as always, was past worli seaface, shivaji park, upto bandra reclamation and then back to nariman point; though on the way back, an interesting incident happened wherein, past shivaji park I noticed a Hyosung St7 – dude! that’s one killer bike! Like an excited kid, I started chasing the bike. This is where it got interesting – wherein the St7 rider and I started riding together without uttering a word. This was so super awesome! We also had enough people staring at us past prabhadevi and century bazaar. Finally, before he went his way at passport office and I went towards city¬†bakery, we gave each other a thumbs up & cruised away… Total feeling of brotherhood had happened!

Pretty Average Pizzeria

That’s Vibha

Got home, decided to go to Pizzeria, a local pizza joint at¬†marine-drive. They serve the most awesome¬†Bombay¬†masala pizza (regular cheese pizza with¬†Indian¬†herbs). Reaching pizzeria, we realized the place has been totally re-done and looked quite cool; the same, though, could not be said about their service and food as it was horrifying – firstly the service and then the food. They have changed the recipe for the Bombay Masala Pizza… Immediately called up a Shlok (friend) with whom we have eaten 5 Bombay Masala’s and have been regulars to this restaurant. Spammed social media about the¬†disappointment and the general stuff. Also note Shlok has a Royal Enfield Twin Spark 350cc. ¬†Coincidentally, also met¬†¬†my old boss and friend, Vibha, who was visiting the place as well. She also had a feeling where she thought she would meet me (premonition¬†moment)! Cribbed to her also about the service and food, then took a photo of hers to feature on this write up check the same ūüôā Post that, came home & crashed.

This is Sensational!

Evening was spent eating amazing frankie made by the Mrs. Also ate icecream bon bons and watched Gone starring Amanda Sefried to end the day. Sunday morning’s bike ride was past lower parel, dadar and back. Also took Mihir for some photography to marine-drive, grant road vegetable market and mahalakshmi. He also went to haji Ali Durga which was fun and scary & he is going to have a post on the same with some awesome photo’s soon. Most of the day was spent watching movies & lazing in bed having Caronas. Saw Runnning Man starring Arnold, a bit of Supernatural & then watched Limitless starring Bradly Cooper which was brilliant to end the day. Started off Monday by hating them i.e. Monday’s. Post that brilliant bike ride happened as the weather was awesome & to make the day interesting, have dinner planned at the in-laws. Hopefully, I won’t hate Mondays that much this week ūüôā

The Weekend Bike Rides & More

The Stare Down

Kids Killing it on Skates

Revisited Haywards 5000 (Strong Indian Beer) after ages on Thursday evening. Yes, the weekend came in early with the gang assembling at my house fondly  known as the Adda (Headquarters). Finished friday work and moved into the weekend celebrations with alcohol and good food. Then came the Saturday morning bike ride which was past Worli and Nariman Point; there was a brief staredown between me and a Siberien Huskie as you can see in the picture. Also on Saturday and Sundays, there are skating classes for kids where in parents block a certain aspect of Nariman Point & kids race around there which seems like a lot of fun! Then took Mihir to Hanging Gardens through Walkeshwar. Most of the day was spent drinking Carona and watching movies!

That’s One Mean Machine

Jason Statham on the Ducati Desmsedici RR

After watching the trailer of Expendables 2 and in our drunk frenzy we decided to watch the Expendables – it was too much fun watching the crazy action & awesome dialogues in the movie. 300 & Expendebles are a must watch if you are hammered…the experiance is unmatched. Post watching the movie and seeing iconic scenes like Micky Rourke riding a bike, I did some R & D on the movie & realised the¬†movie has some crazy bikes (we will be doing an entire post on the same soon); some interesting bike facts around the movie, The motorcycle that Jason Statham’s character, Lee Christmas, is riding is the Italian made street legal MotoGP race inspired Ducati Desmosedici RR. This sport-bike carries a price tag of $75,000, has a top speed of 190+ mph (305 km/h). This 989cc 4 cylinder produces 200hp while only weighing 377 pounds (171 kg). Of the only 1,500 made, 500 made it to the U.S. and they all sold out within five hours. Tom Cruise was the lucky recipient to receive the first one imported to the U.S.¬†¬†Evening on Saturday was spent eating the yummiest burittos ever¬†made by the Mrs. …totally bad ass!!!

Killer View

Gate Way of India

Sunday morning began with a bike ride past Apollo Bunder & the legendary Gateway of India; the sites & sounds here were amazing considering you have the Taj hotel and the sea at a stretch of an arm’s distance; also the view from the edge of the footpath is brilliant.

Spent most part of the ride with the bike parked and glaring at the view, then headed to Nariman point to see kids skate and then back. Went to Moshe’s for brunch where the discussion centered around how good The Avengers movie is & the brilliance of the plot, characters, script, dialogue, etc. Got back, decided to watch Mark Whalberg’s Contraband which was a decently exciting movie, passed out for a bit, then woke up to some exciting Grey Goose Popsicles which were made by Yooti (sister in law) ¬†& the Moto GP Portual leg.

Post dinner, lazed watched Super Natural, ate Kaluha flavored chocolate dessert again courtesy Yooti which was the perfect end to the superb weekend!

The Extended Weekend Part 2

Monday Morning Ride View

Part 1 of the same was around the details of Saturday& Sunday; though, as mentioned the Holiday continued till Tuesday, considering Monday & Tuesday were holidays!!!! The excitement of ending Sunday night without Monday being a working day is absolutely one of the greatest feelings in the world… As always Monday morning started off with a bike ride across Nariman Point, Walkeshwar & Breach Candy. The excitement of the ride coupled with the excitement of Monday being a holiday, & to top it off, we were going to watch The Avengers (we covered that in yesterday’s post) was totally insane!!!

Fiery Idli

Awesomeness

The next cool thing was going to watch Avengers on our own Bajaj Avenger….this was so awesome! Again, this is the moment to mnention the greatness of the movie and how awesomely awesome it is and all should watch it (specially if you own a Bajaj Avenger somehow the experience multiplies exponentially). Post the movie, we went down to Walkeshwar to Dakshinayan which is this small joint which serves some great South Indian food. Their Dosas, different kinds of idli-wadas, punniyaram, bisibele rice & filter coffee are to die for. Another thing I forgot to mention was that the gang was going to meet up for in the evening for a food & alco party; please to note, our friend Ritika was also going to be gracing us with her presence – she also loves food & alco as much as us ūüôā The menu for the evening was Pizza pot pies, home brewed beer, whiskey, Southern Comfort & the hulk themed soft centred baked cheesecake. Afternoon was spent preparing for the party; most of the same was done by the lovely Mrs while most of us had passed out. Evening was spent drinking & stuffing ourselves with yummy food, beer & more alco…

Sidhivinayak Temple

Tuesday started with a bike ride – a trip past Sidhivinayak (as always) which is a Ganpati temple & has a huge following; also as it was Tuesday which is Ganpati day; there are crowds lining up from 12:00am onwards! Devotees walk from across the city and outstation to the temple, it‚Äôs a pretty big deal and all who visit the temple believe that their prayers get answered. Post Prabhadevi, I moved to Shivaji Park where in there was crazy security; at that moment, I realised it was Maharashtra Day & Labour Day and thus there were celebrations and security measures. I went past Reclamation where in there were Royal Enfield Riders assembling for a Rally. Post Reclamation, rode all the way back to Nariman Point and then home. After a well deserved shower and cold coffee with bailey‚Äôs irish cream, I crashed in bed as the plan for the day was to laze & do nothing… Starting from 11:00 am in the morning to 11:00 pm in the night. Rachita and me watched episodes of Supernatural season 1 & 2 only had a few breaks for lunch & dinner. All in all, an awesome extended weekend!!!

The Extended Weekend Part 1

Colaba Defense Station

As the title of this post suggests, we are enjoying an extended weekend ūüôā¬† Conisdering Saturday, Sunday was off, Monday we took leave from work & tomorrow is 1st May Labour Day so Holiday!!! 4 days of total bliss… Too much good stuff has happened in the past 2 days & lots more to happen in the coming 48 hours so this post has 2 parts.

Superb Roads at Colaba Defense Station

Saturday¬† morning bike ride was absolutely spectacular; I¬†was riding past Marine Drive and decided to go towards Colaba, enroute came across Colaba Defense Station. Most of the morning then was spent exploring the same: beautiful roads, greenery, some crazy tanks & turrets on display and just sheer bliss as the place was quiet and all you heard was the bike engine and felt the wind on your face. If you¬† are in Bombay and are looking at a¬†place to go ride¬†I strongly suggest Colaba Defense Station…it is an experience.

Got back home post that and then Mihir took the bike out where the saddle bags on the bike ripped off and tore… This meant a trip to the chop shop,¬†went there at about 11:00am found Guddu,¬†my mechanic. Told him the problem then went to Jayseshbhai my fabricater & accesory manager got a new pair of saddle bags which were now fixed with new brackets so they dont fall apart. Also, Jayesh a got chrome Eagle totum put on the front fendor.¬†Guddu also got the bike washed and polished. While the bike was being fixed we went out for lunch to All Stir Fry at Colaba as uncle & aunt were leaving for foreign.¬† Reaching there we realized the place has shut down. Moved to Bellagio, a quaint eatery opposite central library, ordered some good pizza, pastas, etc. and finished lunch. On the way back, went to the chop shop & got the bike back which was looking super cool!

The Eagle has Landed

Sunday Morning Bike Ride View

Saturday evening was spent bottling home¬†made¬†beer and drinking some of the same…… turned out to be a well rounded stout which was superb. (through the week will be posting a detailed aticle on brewing beer at home). Dinner with Family and emo moments seeing off uncle off was the end to Saturday. Bike Ride on Sunday was past Bandra reclamation which is one of my most favorite places to ride the bike. Post that, there was Astro”s (our little pet cocker spaniel) bath & general chilling. Then Mihir & I were deciding whether we get a dual ehaust and a new silencer fitted on the bike; conclusion we will be getting that done soon will keep you posted. Afternoon was spent in true biker style guzzling home brewd beer having sheesha with the Aashay (cousin from pune) & the passing out .

Home Brewed Beer

Evening we tried watching a horror flick called 7 below which was horrifying ūüôā and was shut in about 40¬†minutes of being started. More Alcohol was had post which the Mrs & me made Fries & Roti Rolls with hot Sauce for the family. Supernatural was watched to end the day;¬†though, this time the end of day was not a downer considering Monday & Tuesday were also holidays. Also today we are going to watch Avengers; and as a prelude to the same, we revisited and saw Captain America, Thor, Hulk & Iron Man Movies over the weekend which was, if i do say so myself, sensational!!!

Mainland Bikers

If you remember the post on Monday, 23rd of April, 2012, we had spoken about Rachita’s birthday celebrations at Mainland China. In today’s post, we write about our experience at one of the finest eateries in South Bombay.

Mainland China

Awesome Ambiance

After the morning bike ride & post multiple discussions last weekend and where we should go to celebrate the Mrs. birthday we zeroed in on Mainland China. Although we have been to this place loads of time we decided to revisit the same. Reached there by about 12:30pm. Fortunately the restaurant is situated 10 minutes from where we leave at SOBO Central Mall, off Haji Ali in South Bombay. Going up in the elevator to the 2nd floor of the mall there was the distinct smell of food being cooked across the ground floor & even in the lift. At one point we did laugh about the fact that the building was on fire.

At the entrance, we were¬†greeted by the manager who¬†recognized¬†us as regulars and gave us a quiet place in the corner of the restaurant. Walked in, got seated, were welcomed by an extremely polite staff of waiters. Here let me take a moment to describe the decor. It has a nice warm feel, I personally like the fact that the restaurant is not too brightly lit; it has a nice dingy feel. Also there are Ming Dynasty Vases and¬†Statutes around and chandeliers which do not have any implication basis china ūüôā Back to the celebrations now! As all bikers do, I ordered my daily fix of beer………. Mihir, Rachita & Yooti ordered mocktails. The bar here is priced reasonably, though like most places Beer is the cheapest. Also there is a decent selection of Whiskys, Rum, Vodka, etc. the normal stuff. There was also some herbal tea given to the ladies basis request. Side by side the kimchi, which according to us is the bestest ever, was being devoured.

Crazy Spicy Chicken

Important point to note, we all love spicy food…the hotter the better. No soup was ordered though the normal Sweet Corn, Chicken, Talu Meian, etc. are¬†available¬†on the menu. We ordered crispy fried sichuan chicken with smoked chillies and peanuts which was crazily spicy (please see the picture of the chillies), the beer here was a life safer ūüôā ¬†there was also some lemon¬†potatoes¬†ordered & konjee crispy lamb. The chicken &¬†potato¬†were absolutely spectacular the Lamb though had a smell which was a bit fishy, the same was highlighted to the¬†Stuart who replaced the same with the greatest lamb preparation humankind has seen – the cumin lamb :). While all of this was happening, plans for the evening celebrations were also being discussed & Rachita’s & mine first bike ride date also was the topic of discussion. Main course was sapo tofu vegetable and some fragrant pot fried rice. The same was just perfect!

The overall menu at Mainland China offers a¬†variety¬†of different foods which caters to all¬†palettes: Lamb, Chicken, Fish & Vegeteable. Startes &¬†main courses are brilliant, also a special note here to the service which is absolutely exceptional; not even in 5 star hotels do you get this kind of treatment. Remember the konjee Lamb we gave back & got the cumin lamb instead? Well, post our main course, we did not order any dessert as we were decently stuffed. We asked for the check. Though, to our surprise, we¬†received¬†a platter of¬†chocolate¬†spring-rolls¬†complimentary. Boss! Free food… That being the first feeling let me tell you the desert was absolutely and totally awesome!

Exceptional Maincourse

All in all we highly recommend this place if you are in South Bombay and have a craving for Chinese food, Mainland is one of the finest places you can visit, add to that the service & trust me, you wont be disappointed.

Our Rating РPlease note this is basis Km 10 to 100 (10 being the lowest & 100 being the highest)

Ambience – 85km

Service – 94km

Food – 92km

Burn – 80 km (Just about affordable)

Badbikegang Average Speed – 87.75 we give it an 88

First Bike Date & More on the Weekend Chronicles

Most of Friday was spent doing some crazy documentation at work. So come evening, I picked up a few beers & started planning the weekend! Saturday was Rachita’s (my wife) birthday so¬†the plan was¬†¬†around her & Sunday was going to be basic chores – Astro’s, our little baby cocker spaniel’s, bath,¬†family lunch, visit to the chopshop¬†& general lazing. So now the POA was crystallized.

View on our Bike Date!

Saturday morning kick-started at 6:00am with Rachita & my first bike ride date in 15 years! Yup never had we ever gone on a bike double-seat. We rode past Worli Seaface to Nariman Point & back; she was a bit nervous from time to time basis her apprehension about riding bikes, though, after a bit things were better. We felt a bit like college kids, we also tried to sit like they do in the movies where in the girl holds the guy from behind, though Ra said it was uncomfortable considering the same was straining her back. All in all, we had fun & the day had started off on a great note!

Happy Birthday Flowers

More Happy Birthday Flowers!

Post bike ride, we got home, took the car & Mihir (my twin brother) & left for Dadar flower market to pick-up flowers for the Mrs. Mihir wanted to do some photography so he came along, though once we reached there, cops patrolling the streets didn’t allow him to click pictures and asked him if he had permission to click the same…..WTF is that? Anyways, he snuck in a few shots! We bought some awesome tulips & liliams & got back home. Post arranging flowers & finishing a shower, etc. we left to pick up a watch for the Birthday girl which Mihir was going to gift to her. We picked up a nice one from SOBO Central Mall; then went to Mainland China for lunch & came home for some nap time.

Evening was spent making some awesome red velvet cupcakes with a cream cheese frosting & some Spinach and Cottage cheese bake for the evening party with the families. Party celebrations went on in full swing & too much fun became!

Byculla Bridge is Awesome!!!

Sunday morning, as always, started of with a brilliant bike ride past byculla bridge, lower parel flyovers. I then spent the morning with Astro Рhis oil massage, bath, brewed some beer (will write a post on that shortly) then watched Supernatural & started Spartacus 3 which was toally brilliant. Post which, I left for the Chopshop with Mihir to get some work done on the bike & get new customized seats. It took about 3 hours to get the seat customized, though was totally worth it. I also got some investigation done around getting a silencer which will give the bike a dual exhaust. Also found out details for the eagle bike which Jayeshbhai at the chopshop was trying to sell to us. Got home, had awesome dinner, watched Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol which was toally entertaining, had some amazing red velvet cake which was left over & then passed out.

Getting Seat Cover Customized...

Woke up to the same thought as the last 2 weeks¬†I miss the weekend & i hate Mondays.¬†This time though, there is much to look forward to as next Monday I have put in a leave and Tuesday is a Holiday! Now planning the extended 4 day weekend with the gang…

.

Seat has been Customized...
