Our Own Food Festival Part 2

So continuing from where we left off about 10 days ago, the journey continued in terms of awesome food. Also considering it was October, which also happens to be Mihir & my Birthday Month & yes we celebrate the whole month :-).  Having said that back to the foodgasm tour. This time around, Rachita had made some brilliant Shortbread with Caramel & Chocolate Ganache which was totally and absolutely amazing as you can see in the picture below.

Heavenly!!!

We also have my brother-in-law’s birthdays in the month of October & so we decided to celebrate the same with mine & Mihir’s birthday. Before we get to that menu I need to tell you guys about the crazy #beerfest we had at our residence courtesy Mihir & Yooti. About 10 days ago, Mihir & Yooti got me loads of Birthday Gifts. The same included the Das Boot Glasses (Glasses in Shape of Boots) & Loads of Beers from around the world; so that evening, we went crazy drinking the likes of Murphy’s Stout, Birra Morreti, Super Bock, London Pride & a choice of flavored Beers from Indus Pride which included Corriander, Cinnamon & Spicy Fennel….the same was absolutely unbelievable… We were all decently drunk as we tasted & finished all the beers; even Rachita who doesn’t drink had a swig of most of the flavors!

Beers!!!

Super Awes

Delicious Cupcakes!!!

We had Ritika & Suneel over for an evening where Rachita had made some Paprika Puffs with Devilled Mushrooms. There were 3 types of dips with tortilla chips, pretzels and pita chips. There were some awesome Grape, Basil & Ricotta sticks which were off the charts!!! There were also some amazing cupcakes with butter icing. That was the 1st party! The 2nd one was with the family & in-laws where we had made like an interactive meal – the same consisted of Chilli Beans, Chick Peas with a Caribbean Seasoning, Panner Chilli & French Fries in Mustard. The guests were served hot Roomali Roti’s & they could decide the roll they wanted to make, the concept was a run away hit… For dessert that day, Rachita & I had put together a 6 Layer creation that included Red velvet Cake, Shortbread, Chocolate Ganache, Caramel, Coconut Flavored Cheese Cake, Fresh Fruits with a drizzled of chocolate & Icecream. The same we layered into individual glasses, so the helpings were easy to eat and also the same let the flavors sink into the dessert which was absolutely & totally sensational!!!

Goo!!!

Sensational!!!

Yummmmyyy!!!

The rains have also gone away which is great news as I have been going on my bike rides very regularly. Also Ekta’s bike was here this weekend so I decided to take the same for a spin which was awesome fun. The weather in the mornings is absolutely perfect & just makes the whole experience brilliant!!! Last week Ekta & I went for a ride in the evening – she on Goo & me on my Avenger, stopped at Woodside Inn for a drink, rode back home had more to drink & totally killed it. This Friday we went to Soul Fry Casa, one of our most favorite places & got shitfaced on some watermelon Martinis & Sugarcane, Ginger & Vodka mix… Over the weekend, i.e the one which just went by, we went to Karma for lunch, had Pizzas, Sizzlers & Wok Tossed Noodles. Also, we were celebrating Vishal’s Birthday & for the same, Rachita had made a brilliant Rainbow Cake. You have to see the pictures in the slide show below. For dinner there was super salad, grilled vegetables, a chunky roasted potato mash, polenta topped with a mushroom reduction which was unbelievably delicious; not to forget, we had some roasted fennel as well!!!  Yup, so that’s been our crazy food experience since the past coupla weeks. Do check the pictures in the slide show for a yummy visual treat & till next time, happy eating 🙂

The Weekend , Bike Ride & Food Update

Sausage & Meat Yummmyness!!!

Goo!

This weekend was pretty crazy, with a lot of things happening beyond the normal R & C (resting & chilling). Beyond thee pictures attached, do also check out the slide show below for all the brilliant & yummy pictures. Started off the same early Friday afternoon, wherein post work from our fort office, Vishal & I decided to head to Mocambo’s which is a restaurant opposite our office and have a few pints. Reached there, zeroed in on Miller, which we had drunk in Goa, though now the same was in Bombay so happiness happened! We had a few pints; from there, we decided to head to Kobe’s for lunch. Mihir & Rachita also joined us for lunch. Sizzlers were had which were pretty awesome – Sausage Sizzler, Hamburger Steak Sizzler & Nasi goreng which is a rice based Sizzler were devoured. Post this, we finished some work and then were going to crash at our relevant homes. Please note, Ekta wasn’t there as she was in Sanpada and post that was heading to Baroda. In the evening, I got a call from Ekta saying she is not going to Baroda and that she will be going the next day on her bike… Full on drinking session happened post that with Rum & beer, post which we passed out. Ekta got up the next day by 4:00 a.m. and left for Baroda.

Basilico

Miller!!!

Saturday morning started off with deciding a brunch date with the Mrs. We decided to go to Colaba & then figure a place to go and eat. Post loitering across Colaba Causeway we decided to go to Basilico. Reached Basilico by 11:30 a.m., the place was pretty empty. Rachita ordered a Ginger Cooler & I had some Orange Pekoe Tea (Yup! I had tea, as Basilico doesn’t serve Alcoholic Beverages); also by then we had called Anushka & asked her to join us. While waiting for her, we ordered a Cajun Chicken Salad which was superb! Once Anushka aka Anus arrived, we bitched about a lot of general things and then ordered some Chicken & Steak for our mains. Also ordered some insanely yummy Pizza & finally ended the leisurely brunch with a New York Syle Cheese Cake. For those who don’t know the difference between Philedelphia & New York Cheesecake, Philly is Baked while NY is steamed :-). The afternoon was spent sleeping, woke up and then went for an awesome bike ride past Marine Drive & Nariman Point, got home & figured Rachita had made some awesome burritos for dinner. The dinner spread was awesome – there was sour cream, guacamole, salsa, refried beans & tortilla’s for dinner. Also to top all of that, Rachita made some super duper cheesecake (eggless, that too!). Post the crazily awesome dinner, we watched a few episode of Game of Thrones Season 2 & passed out.

Worlds Best Burrito!!!

Baked Cheese Cake!!!

Awesomeness!!!

Sunday morning started off with Astro’s walk, then bath as always. Then there was a session of personal grooming in the bathroom, accompanied by some dhinchak regional music. Played a session of Sleeping Dogs on the Xbox360 with Mihir before heading to the inlaws for brunch. Please to note, Rachita had baked cheesecake for the brunch as well :-). There were some awesome dosas made for brunch which were eaten; again, overate so went home and passed out. Woke up, went for bike ride, which was superb considering Sunday evenings Marine Drive & Nariman Point is always packed with people so sights & sounds were ever so intresting. Came home, played NBA2k12 & UFC Undisputed on the Xbox360 while listening to some Blues & Jazz by Muddy Waters, BB King & Eric Clapton. Dinner was some chinese ordered from China Gate at Atria Mall. On the ordered list was some Hunan Wanton Soup, Crispy Fried Potatoes, Burnt Garlic Pot Rice, Shezwan Mein foon (Rice noodles), Sui Mai & Stir Fried Chinese Greens. Post dinner, watched some UFC on Sony Six & finally ended the day with a few episodes of Game of Thrones season 2. Woke up Monday morning, realized the weather was good and went for a bike ride & some photagraphy which is featured in the slide show below. All in all, a great weekend which has set a precedence for the others to come 😉

Goa Getaway Part 3

We Love Her…

This post is a continuation of the first 2 as the header suggests. Intitially, I was not going to be adding this one & the Goa Getaway Part 2 was going to be the last basis our trip; however, basis the last 3 days spent in Goa this post just had to happen.

Awesomeness!!!

Best Place to Eat in Goa!!!

Rs 5/- Fenny

So post the 4th day in Goa where we decide to extend our vacation super excitment time had happened! Immediately, we went and bought booze food, etc. etc. Also jumped into the pool & vegged there for a good few hours post which, basis a recommendation from our Villa manager, we decide to go to Florentine, a local joint, which according Henry serves the best Chicken Cafreal in Goa! Also, by now, we had a new bike added to our list of Activa & Avenger which was the Yamaha Frazer. So come dinner time, I decided to try my hand at riding the Yamaha. The same had a very differnt feel compared to the Avenger which I am so used to, also the gear system which is totally different – 1 down the rest up. Felt kinda like Valentino Rossi on the same, though was riding at a snail speed trying to get used to the system. Post reaching Florentine, realized this was a classic local joint with cheap food & alcohol, considering their cheapest drink on the menu was at Rs 5/- for the local fenny. Ordered loads of food – Chicken Cafreal, Vindaloo, Egg Curry & Loads of Papads – devoured all of the same, had a few drinks & for about 8 people and loads of food paid only Rs.1400/- which is simply spectacular. Everyone visiting Goa has to try this place – it’s got the best Goan food ever!!!

Next morning, Ekta, Aashay & me who were up early decided to go for a bike ride 🙂 Ekta was riding the Yamaha, I was on the Avenger & Aashay was riding the Activa. We decided to head towards Aguada Jail road and take a detour towards the Helipad, further to that road there is a dead end which has a small lane which allows you to ride your bike towards the edge of a cliff which overlooks the sea and is simply brilliant!!! (Check the Gallery Below for some awesome Pics of the Bike Ride)

Our Awesome Rides!!!

The view from the edge compares to nothing you have ever seen… also the feeling of peace, tranquility & all that jazz is absolutely & totally sensational. Rest of the day was spent sleeping. In the evening we decided to go to a pub on the road to Taj Vivanta called Charcoal & Cheese – had loads of our Goa drink which was invented there (Goa Drink is Rum, Thumbs Up, Loads of Ice & Chat Masala…. totally Ulti Bakka). Post that, we decided to head to the Park hotel which had a ladies night where drinks for ladies were free! Went there, chilled for a bit & decided to come back the next day as the ambiance was super and also we reached at 9:30 pm and the place shuts at 10:00pm for music; some new crap policy by Goa police to shut blaring music by 10:00pm everynight, preposterous I tell you…

The Park Goa!

Charcoal & Cheese!

Next day, which was our last day in Goa, finally, was spent lying in the pool to start the day, heading for a bike ride; further to the same mandatory nap happend after which Rachita, Aashay & I decided to head out and finish some shopping. Enroute we realized suddenly Goa had become extremely packed with tourists and was quite a buzz, post quickly picking up some hairbands & crocs we decided to grab a bite at Britto’s… by then Ekta had also joined us. We entered Britto’s & in the same breathe exited after seeing the crowd which comprised of grannies & little kids (horrifying i tell you absolutely horrifying). Though by now we were hungry, so went to this place called “La Pub” which is on the way to Britto’s, ordered our Goa drink fix, also ordered some superb Sausages Wraped in Bacon &  Non Veg Platter which was brilliant. Post this, it was early evening so we decided to head to the Park for some general chilling. Reached there, saw the brilliant view on the beach, the breeze was spectacular, add to that some fun music & crazy ass drinks :-). Most of the evening was spent dancing with Aashay, Ekta & Vishal. Rachita was also there though she was sitting and enjoying her sheesha. Post a crazy evening & night, went back to the villa & passed out. Next day woke up early and then proceeded to drive back to Bombay. Left at 6am from Goa and was home by 6pm in Bombay… Also a special mention to Moti (our adopted dog in Goa) who was totally suffering from ADHD, though was very lovable and super cute. She spent a good deal of about a week living in the villa with us and following us evreywhere including inside the Park Hotel. Shout to Moti to end this article “we miss you :-)”

Goa Getaway Part 2

Pure Awesomeness!!!

Our Private Pool!!!

Today’s post is also a continuation of the Goa Getaway post. For all of you who read part one about the roadtrip this one is the conclusive one which is all about our awesome experience in Goa… So post the amazing car journey we reached Goa Saturday afternoon by about 1pm, went directly to the Villa we had rented – the anticipation & the excitement of how the place would be was unnerving. Though post reaching Calangute & figuring directions to Villa Alina we were finally there! The property looked spectacular with a super old world charm. Immediately, made a run to check our personal infinity pool – the same was totally sensational & very inviting; post figuring rooms and getting the luggage out, we decided to dive into the pool and laze there for a few hours. Meanwhile, Aashay & Rachita had gone out to pick up some alcohol. Once the booze was in, things got into a better perspective and life was all sorted 🙂

Love the old school charm!!!

So for all of you coming to Goa, do check out luxury villas which people rent out. They are cheaper and better than your regular hotels; also, if like us, you prefer an old school getaway place to live then this is the place you need to rent. Ok so the way this works is, you rent the Villa, you have hired help who manage the housekeeping, breakfast & are on call if you need something or the other. There is also a fully furnished kitchen which can be used to make meals, breakfast for us was included in the package. Also basic amenities like towels, etc. are provided by the Villa.

Alcohol & More!!!

Day 1 more or less went into exploring the vastness of Villa Alina & lazing in the pool with oodles of beer & other alco which included Smirnoff vodka, a bottle of JD, some Carona’s, etc…  The feeling of owning  your own Villa with a private pool kind of makes you feel like someone from the “Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous” absolutely unmatched that feeling is.  Day 2 Ekta & Aashay decided to get bikes on rent which is the norm in Goa, so an Avenger & a FZ was rented. We also tried the breakfast offered at the Villa which was your basic: Fruits, Cereals, Juices & Egg Preps. Rest of the day went in the pool wherein random pitchers of JD, Rum, wine, etc were being made & served. Also dinner was a barbecue party where Rachita had cooked some amazing seekh kebabs, chicken, potatoes, paneer & mushrooms.  Too much fun was becoming 🙂

Heaven!!!

Day 3 started off with Rachita, Keisha & me going for breakfast at the iconic Infantaria Cafe – some bacon, goan sausages, mushrooms on toast, croissants, etc. were had with a pint of Millers beer which was on an introductory scheme.  Post that Ekta, Rachita & me decided to go on a roadtrip to explore south Goa, drove through some awesome scenic views of Goa, went past Ponda towards Colva beach road and then towards Colva beach which clearly wasn’t very happening, it kind of reminded me of Juhu beach in Bombay with no real excitement and just the crowd was a major put off. Came back, crashed for a bit and then was back in the pool with the gang.  For dinner went to the Park and had some crazy spicy Vindaloo & Xacutti which was brain blasting!!!

Beautiful Drive to South Goa

POA General Chilling!!!

Day 4 started off with Rachita & me swimming in the pool where we decided on extending our vacation for another 3 days, actually day 4 was going to be our last day, so spoke to the Villa owners, got a good discount and also extended our trip by another 3 days. Most of the day then was spent sleeping & lazing in the pool like a buffalo. For dinner, Rachita had made some awesome coconut chicken curry with rice and kheema with bread accompanied with beers! So the POA for the next 3 days is to rest, drink, eat & generally chill!!!! Mota mote (Long & Short of it) Goa is an absolute must visit at least once a year and if, like us, you have the option of extending your vacation whether in Goa or anywhere you have to do that, the feeling is fabulous, sensational and all that jazz for sure.

Secrets of The Dark Knight Rises (Spoilers)

Awesomeness!!!

The Dark Knight Rises is a damn good film, but what it also showcases is Christopher Nolan’s ability to balance the movie so both the hardcore and the casual fan can appreciate it. The movie has been out for about 2 weeks now; I think it’s high time we put some spoilers up, some of these spoilers have a connection to Nolan’s vision some are just Easter Eggs. Before you jump to the next paragraph be warned it could spoil the movie for you if you have not already watched it.

The Cast

I am not going to beat around the bush anymore, here are the spoilers –

Bruce Wane walks with a cane; this due to injuries sustained in his last encounter with the Joker, of course as the movie progresses Mr. Wayne ignores the doctor’s advice and is back on the street fighting crime as the Batman.

Michael Cane who plays Alfred (Bruce Wayne’s Butler) is there in the movie only for a few minutes, he decides to leave his Master when Bruce Wayne decides to go up against Bane.

Bruce Wayne goes bankrupt, this due to losing his fingerprint and Bane taking over the Gotham Stock Exchange, the bankruptcy leads Wayne to seek a wealthy ally to rescue the company, and he turns to Miranda Tate, a philanthropist and Green Energy activist who he and Lucius Fox bring in order to fund the suppression of the renewable energy programme that they shelved in case it fell into the wrong hands. Fairly key plot point right there…

As twitter Says#TDKR

Joseph Gordon Lewit plays John Blake, who is Robin the boy wonder in the making, for the geeks out there it is explained in the movie that his name is changed from Dick Grayson so he can escape his past – if you closely watch his interaction with Batman you realize it is fairly similar to the ones Batman has with Robin

Commissioner Gordon is a total waste in the movie, for the first half he just in a Hospital bed. I feel bad for Gary Oldman an actor of his calibre deserves more screen time.

Liam Neeson makes an appearance as the very awesome Ra’s Al Gul in Mr. Wayne’s dream sequence; Nolan brilliantly ties the story in and around the character even though he is not present in the entire movie, read on to find out how.

The Scare Crow is back, he plays the judge in the people’s court which is created by Bane

Bane!!!

Bane’s army takes over Wayne enterprise science division, in turn giving them access to the many versions of the Bat mobile

Bane has some crazy confrontations with the Batman, in the first such confrontation he breaks Batman’s back and takes him to the dreaded pit prison, where he leaves him to watch his conquest of Gotham and die.

Anne Hathaway is great eye candy in the film, she plays Catwoman who partners with Batman to fight Bane, and of course before that she is an integral part of bankrupting him and also getting him bitch slapped by Bane. Note towards the end there are indications that she is Mrs Wayne.

Catwoman!!!

Bane’s origin are credited to the dreaded pit prison, where he was born and was the only prisoner ever to escape, however the same is untrue – Marion Cottilard who plays Miranda Tate is actually the prisoner who escapes the dreaded prison, she in fact is Ra’s Al Gul’s daughter Talia Al Gul, Bane is her protector and is in love with her, he helps Talia escape and faces the wrath of the inmates who disfigure his face (hence he needs the breathing apparatus). Talia on the other hand is on her way to fulfil Ra’s’s legacy and wants Gotham to rise from the ashes

Batman does not die in the movie, he hands over his cave to Robin and then is last seen having what seems as lunch with Catwoman, while Alfred looks on.

I think that’s pretty much it, if you have any questions regarding the movie don’t hesitate to type them in the comment section also if you have a great spoiler please add to the same 🙂

Eye Candy…

The Dark Knight Rises Facts Photos & More

Click on the image to know the history off “The Batman”

So continuing our post on the crazy Nolan Batman series, we have picked up a few interesting facts / trivia on the movies and also added an interesting section on Goofs during the shooting of The Dark Knight Rises. The content piece for this article has been taken from across the net and from IMDB as well. Have fun reading and going through some awesome images. Also check the pictorial history of the caped crusader in the pic above.

Batman Begins

Batman Begins

  • In Batman Begins Christian Balelost his voice three times during filming after altering his voice while playing Batman.
  • Before Cillian Murphy played the fear inducing Scarecrow the role was offered to Marilyn Manson.
  • Much of Batman’s gear and apparel, including his cape and suit, is based on actual military technology.
  • Christian Bale auditioned to play Robin the Boy Wonder in Batman Forever.
  • During filming of Batman Begins the trailer door for Christian Bale read Bruce Wayne.
  • In Batman Begins the license plate on Bruce Wayne’s sports car is 375 265.
  • The wide-shot of the house of the League of Shadows was entirely computer-generated.
  • During filming of the scene where Batman is being towed by a train through the streets of Gotham, so much steam was used that it would “rain” on the cast and crew for several minutes after each take.

The Dark Knight

The Dark Knight

  • The Dark Knight is the first Batman feature film that doesn’t incorporate the word “Batman” in its title.
  • Even though Christopher Nolan offered her the part, Katie Holmes decided not to reprise her role as Rachel Dawes. Instead, she opted to co-star with Diane Keaton andQueen Latifah in Mad Money that same year. Sarah Michelle Gellar, Isla Fisher, Emily Blunt and Rachel McAdams were all considered for the role before Maggie Gyllenhaal stepped in.
  • The Dark Knight was the first Batman film with no live-action or CGI bats.
  • Neither of the first two films has opening credits or titles
  • Heath Ledger improvised when he started clapping inside his jail cell in a mocking and sardonic capacity as Gordon is promoted. The clapping was not scripted but Christopher Nolan immediately encouraged the crew to continue filming and the sequence was included in the film.

The Dark Knight Rises

The Dark Knight Rises

  • Christian Bale has stated that he would not play Batman if Robin appeared anywhere in the trilogy. Christopher Nolan agreed not to include Robin as it would undermine the dark tone of his series.
  • One of the reasons why Christopher Nolan cast Tom Hardy as Bane wasbecause of his performance in the film RocknRolla. Hardy stated that he thought he was cast because of his role in Bronson. He arrived on set only to learn that Nolan has never even seen Bronson.
  • Joseph Gordon-Levitt , Leonardo DiCaprio , James Holzier, Ryan Gosling, and Mark Ruffalo were considered to play John Blake.Gordon-Levitt was ultimately cast.
  • After The Dark Knight was released, Aaron Eckhart expressed interest in returning as Harvey “Two-Face” Dent, as the film had left his role relatively open-ended.Christopher Nolan stated that Dent was definitely dead, and that his death would leave lasting repercussions across Gotham.
  • At 165 minutes long, this is the longest Batman film released to date as well as the longest film that Christopher Nolan has ever directed.
  • Out of respect for Heath Ledger, the Joker is never once mentioned for the whole film.

The Dark Knight Goofs

  • The timer on the bomb reaches 4:59 twice during the countdown.
  • When Bruce Wayne was checking his computer in the bat cave for the first time, one of the articles about Selina Kyle spelled the word “Heist” wrong. It said “Hiest” instead.
  • The fusion reactor suddenly becomes a fission reactor. It has a control rod removed and then threatens to go critical. Control rods are there to control a fission reaction and not a feature of fusion reaction. Even if this was the case, the decay would happen at an exponential rate and certainly not take 3 months to happen.
  • 3,000 police officers are trapped underground for 3 months, kept alive by food parcels. However, when they are released, not one of them shows any sign of beard growth.
  • Throughout the trilogy, Batman noticeably wears thick black make up around his eyes when he has his mask on. However, when he returns The Bat to the cave for the first time, he talks with Alfred without his mask on, yet there is no sign of any make-up.

Hope you enjoyed reading the same. Also like we said, these are just a few handpicked interesting reads there are loads more available on the net. Also if you guys have some interesting trivia or facts do send them to us 🙂

Date with The Dark Knight Rises – Review

A lot has been written about the Dark Knight Rises online till date; we thought we would come up with a review that works for both the casual movie watcher and geeks (love the way we categorise people nowadays). We have tried very hard to keep the review spoiler free, but a few are mentioned so I suggest you read the same at your own risk. Before we get into the review, it is important to know that Christopher Nolan was hesitant about returning to the series for a third time, but agreed to come back after developing a story with his brother Jonathan and David S. Goyer. Thank God he did because it is a fitting end to the trilogy.

The Mrs and I decided to go for the Dark Knight Rises on Saturday; unfortunately all theatres we looked at were packed to capacity. Finally, the Mrs. found the Ebony Lounge at Metro where 2 tickets were available. We both had never been to the lounge so decided to give it a try. The show was an early morning show at 9:45 am the very next day; as with most Saturdays, we slept in and then there was a mad rush to reach the movies. Cutting to the chase, we made it in time watched the Superman trailer and got into our very comfortable recliners 🙂 for all those who missed it check the trailer below

The movie starts off with a bang, introducing Bane as one of the major characters in the scheme of things to come. As you have heard by now the events of the movie take place 8 years after the events of the Dark Knight. Batman has retired and Gotham believes he is the reason that they lost their beloved son, Harvey Dent. The good part is Nolan has kept the story around events in Gotham rather than just Batman, this enable him to introduce and build certain characters at the start of the movie. Catwoman and Miranda Tayte are the most notable characters introduced at the start of the movie, played by the gorgeous Anne Hathaway and Marion Cottilard. Both the leading ladies look stunning and will have you asking for more throughout the movie. The action scene where Catwoman fights goons while Gotham PD breaks in and she switches characters to play the victim is crazy, similarly Cottilard has an aura around her which a few will immediately recognise; suffice to say she breezes through her scenes with the ease of a knife through butter. Moving on, the plot also moves at a crazy pace, one incident leads to another and Batman is forced out of retirement – this basis Bane trying to steal data from the Gotham Stock exchange. The Batpod is his vehicle of choice and the sequence where the cops eventually start chasing the Batman instead of Bane is crazy; Nolan known for not using CGI has shot over 100 cars driving across the streets of Gotham. Batman escapes the Gotham PD and also introduces viewers to the Bat (Batwing). Of course Alfred, Batman’s trusted butler, unable to see Batman go up against a Nemisis like Bane, decides to retire (Don’t know why Michael Cane was let off so early in the movie).

The movie’s biggest advantage is the fact that it is driven forward not by Batman but by Bane, something you don’t see nowadays. The character is brutal and almost demigod like, much like in the comics; the script masterfully builds his character to match Batman who already has 2 movies under his belt, his plan through the movie will keep you guessing and his voice will terrorize you whenever you hear it, be it on the iconic football field shot featuring Hines Ward, wherein the entire ground collapses and Bane introduces himself to Gotham, or in his first hand to hand encounter with Batman, in which, I must say, he dominates. “So you think the dark is your ally? I was born in it. Moulded by it. The first time I saw the light I was already a man. And it was nothing but bright. The shadows betray you. Because they belong to me!” writing like this will keep you glued to your seats. The movie then takes on the task of back-stories and the faith of Gotham, I do believe Nolan has been inspired by Bane’s origin – “Bane spends his childhood in the hellish prison of Pena Duro on the corrupt South American island nation of Santa Prisca. He develops superhuman strength through a forced experiment involving the drug Venom”. Taking from here, Nolan puts up the spectacular prison sequence shot in India and takes you through Batman’s resurgence (This after Bane breaks his back) as well as key plots towards the end of the movie. I really wished they had shown more of the prison, it is truly spectacular. A special mention goes to the character of the blind prisoner (or who appears to be blind) played by Uri Gavriel.

The end of the movie is where the Darkness and Chaos really shine bringing Gotham to life like fans of the comic know it; hell breaks loose and here is where the supporting crew also work their magic, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman and Joseph Gordon-Levitt share substantial screen time in Batman’s absence and give you a view of the madness that Gotham has become. I especially liked the makeshift courtroom which is judged by Scarecrow, Gordon Levitt stands out in his performance as the detective trying to do right – he is portrayed as being intelligent enough to deduce Batman’s identity, and near the end of the film, Blake reveals his legal name is Robin John Blake (Hint). Again the sequence where Gotham PD take on Bane is spectacular. What surprised me towards the end was the tag team that Batman formed with Catwoman, we always know there was something there but fighting together was a bit farfetched.

Before we call it wraps – the music of the movie – it matches each and every scene. Hans Zimmer has done an outstanding job of providing a top notch score for both the smallest of small scenes and epic battles. What you will remember once you finish the movie is “The chant” – the chant that the prisoners shout in unison when someone is trying to climb out of the dreaded prison – Zimmer mentions, “The Chant became a very complicated thing because I wanted hundreds of thousands of voices, and it’s not so easy to get hundreds of thousands of voices. So, we Tweeted and we posted on the internet, for people who wanted to be part of it.” It seemed like an interesting thing. The two worded chant, “deshi basara” translates to “he rises” in Moroccan, exhibiting Ra’s al Ghul’s (Hint) Arabian nationality, as well as coinciding with the title of the film, The Dark Knight Rises.

To conclude, the movie finishes like it starts….. with a bang. I stood up and clapped as the credits rolled. Purists may argue this movie is not like Nolan, he has gone the commercial way and all that crap. I don’t think so; Nolan has taken the best from comic books, interpreted it into his world and portrayed Batman as close to his comic book avatar as possible. This movie is an absolute must watch especially for Tom Hardy’s portrayal of Bane. Don’t miss highlights of the world premiere in the video below.
