We Ride & We Eat

This is where this post begins…

Raju Omelette!

By now most of you have figured that post the whole biking experience the next thing which we obsess about is food 🙂 Also continuing from the last few weeks where bike rides have come to a stand still due to rains in Bombay, most of our lives are revolving around food. Today’s post is also about food and mainly it takes off from a post last week “The Rainy Weekend” wherein Rachita had made the most awesome Omelette Pav (bread) even surpassing the great Raju Omlet of Baroda. For all you egg lovers and foodies, the below post is a must read and also if you are travelling to Baroda then you have to visit this destination.

One of my most favorite places in the city of Baroda and the one I recommend to all my family & friends who visit the city is Raju Omlet. This is an iconic  place run by Mr. Raju and thus the name for people who didn’t get it..  My first visit to this place was around 2 years ago basis my in-laws recommendation. The place clearly didn’t disappoint and thus the visit back. This time around, I carried my  camera so as to capture all the awesome sites of the legendary “Raju Omlet.”

So back to the main story –

We ordered Everything!!!

Raju Omlet, from what I hear, started off many years ago as a small cart which has now evolved into this one small restaurant. Please note, the food available here is only egg preparations – the most famous being OMELETTE and thus the name “Raju Omlet”, As soon as you enter the compound, you can smell fresh butter and hear it sizzling on the tava… Loads of people sitting around staring down at their plates with a singular focus of devouring the food. As soon as you walk towards the order counter, you can see the menu which has a selected few options – egg bhurji, egg rice, bolied egg masala, etc. and also egg omelette, which is the trademark dish. So out of pure desperation and hunger, we (accompanied by in-laws and the Mrs) ordered everything on the menu. Post ordering everything, felt very proud and cool considering people at the cash counter looked at us in amazement!

.

This is Heaven!!!

Egg Bhurji

Also next to the counter was this gigantic tava with Rajubhai (you guessed it! he is the gentlemen who owns this place) cooking some awesome stuff!!!. I kid you not, he put in 500 gms of butter on the pan, broke a few eggs on it, added tomatoes, chilli, garam masala and made 3 plates from the same!!! That’s when we realized this was not going to be a meal for the faint of heart. Please note, to accompany most items on the menu, there is Pav soaked in butter, soaked to such an extent that in the shine of the same you can see your face – brilliantly delicious! Moving on to the food, we had the bhurji floating in butter, boiled egg masala and egg rice which were worth mentioning. The other dishes were spin offs of these and strictly average. Though post eating all the dishes on the menu, it was time for the trademark omelette. So this it 2 portions of Pav (bread for you firangs) soaked in butter and sliced omelette sandwiched between them served piping hot!!! The taste….unmatched!!! We went through multiple portions of the same in like minutes. Side by side, took loads of photos to confirm the claims of butter utilization, limited menu and brilliant food. Also took a photograph of Rajubhai, the owner, who in his moment of attempted humor, said he was worried that because of his picture being available someone would kidnap him! Lol!!! All in all, this is a must place for people visiting Baroda to go and eat – its simple and totally brilliant!

.

Though, the butter and its quantity does take away a few years of life… though totally worth it 🙂

Insane Amounts of Butter!!!

The Legend Mr Raju Bhai!!!

Bikes, Beers & Barbecue

Bikes, Beers & Barbecue was the POA with Rachita, Ritika, Ekta, Vishal, Suneel, Anus & me for last evening! The whole thing came about on Saturday while we were celebrating Ritika’s birthday and, as always, the discussion revolved around food. The minute we figured that the in-laws were going to be out of town for the week, we had a POA ready. It was quickly decided that we were going to have a barbecue with loads of MEAT! This was the moment where Ritika & Rachita started planning the menu. Through Monday & Tuesday multiple visits to online sites were made, menu options were discussed & final list of food was decided.

Some of the Awesomeness!!!

On the menu….crazy stuff….right from –

1)      Sheekh Kebabs

2)      Spicy Chorizo Ham

3)      Spicy Cumin Chicken Sausages

4)      Paneer, Potatoes & Corn

5)      Bacon

Cold cuts were bought on Tuesday by Rachita & the Sheekh Kebab  was being made by Ritika. Wednesday evening was looking awesome! Chicken would also be marinated on Wednesday morning. Tuesday started the day as always with a bike ride past Prabhadevi & Shivaji Park. Thankfully, there was no rains so life was sorted. Also went and tanked up the bike… Ran through the day at work really quickly in all the excitement of the evening ….  also forgot to take tiffin to work. So, had to rush to the nearby mall to grab lunch, then left work, headed home quickly & got to peddar road by 6:30pm. Also carried a bottle of Southern Comfort for the evening, Vishal had ordered some Budweiser’s and Kingfisher Strongs as well, so now we were set for a crazy evening!

Sheekh Kebab Mix

Yummmmyyyyyy!!!

Southern Comfort & Beers kick-started the evening though the same was topped off with some super duper food. To start with, Rachita made some awesome spicy cumin chicken sausages with sautĂ©ed onions which was mouth wateringly spectacular!!! Then came in the veg stuff -corn, paneer & potato which was unreal. this was quickly followed by the chicken and the seekh kebabs which were divine. Post going through decent amounts of alco & food, there were, as always, multiple drunk discussions about people who like Ritika, etc. Bacon & spicy chorizo ham were brought on the table…..this is when the world came to a standstill & the food was totally devoured… Post this, and a couple more drinks, the discussion shifted to a discussion around the Nano – the mini Tata Car and it’s mileage – from there the discussion escalated into whether the car is safe and what the good points of the car are versus the bad. At this point, Ritika who is a Tata employee, on the bad points started severly outraging which was like weird but funny,  (She is going to kill me for putting this). Finally, post everything, we had some awesome chocolate cupcakes made by Ritika, and then we ended the evening by 10:30pm. All in all, crazy amounts of fun, gossip, food, alcohol was had to make the evening totally unforgettable!!!

Chorizo Ham & Bacon!

You have to try this…

The Recipe for the Spicy Cumin Chicken Sausage –

All you need for this are some julliened onions, cumin, a packet of sausages – sliced, red chilli powder, corriander powder and salt, to taste.

Heat some oil in a pan and add in the cumin seeds, about 2 teaspoons. Once lightly browned,

add the onion and saute till translucent. Add in 2 teaspoons of red chilli powder (adjust to suit your tastebuds), half a teaspoon of corriander powder and salt to taste. Now’s when you add in the sliced sausages as well. Cook it for a few minutes, and then serve hot. Your Spicy Cumin Sausages are ready!

The 5 Step Approach

Generally out of it… Hmmmmm so the thing is that a lot of times you hear things like take a break or you should figure what you want to do or really like what you are doing, etc. etc… All of us have gone through the same thought process or had multiple discussions with friends on this topic; though, somehow, taking that step seems to be a big issue. Everyone has reasons why they can’t take that step or don’t want to basis all practical reasons.

Step 1 Bike Ride

So how does this work? I guess I am using today’s post to convince myself of this concept. Also if the same works for you then great. For me it has been a work & home approach & trying to treat the same as 2 different worlds. Also, the same has worked by trying to make both aspects fun! Let me also add that I have also watched a lot of TED videos, read material online, etc. which makes things seem like a cake walk but when you actually try to follow them things just kinda become worse… I have thought about the same during multiple bike rides in the past few months. Over a period of time, what I realized is that the bike ride is actually a part of the overall experience of making things fun, so for me that’s Step 1: Get up in the morning, take the bike ride past empty roads….nothing to bother you except the wind in your face and the sounds of the morning. What is interesting is also in the morning, the world somehow slows down and you notice a lot more, e.g. temperature changes like when you pass Haji Ali, the weather is always cooler; then when you hit worli copper chimney then when you start to ascend the flyover near atria, just before that there is always a heavy breeze; marine drive somehow, at least in summers, even in the morning isn’t cool at all – you can always feel the heat on your back or on chest. Marine drive if like me you travel to everyday, then you also notice people and small, small details about them like there is this group of men who come for a walk and are in all white all the time. There are people who are not regulars but are seen on weekends only. Over a period of time all of the above make the bike ride experience super!!!

WIP

Step 2: work with people who you get along with and enjoy being around so that even if you don’t like the work at least people make things brighter, and finding like minded people aint so tough! Bitch about work, bosses and everything around the world and you will find people who are happy doing the same and so for every hour of work there is loads of bitching, so TP which happens. Important to note, if the work is what you like, then thats like icing on the cake. That to my knowledge doesn’t happen & even if it does, from time to time you keep fluctuating between should I be doing this or maybe something else…

Home Securely Away from Work!

Step 3: Get home from work & then shut everything which is related to work & do some fun stuff! Spend time with family, watch TV but shut the work part out. I know for most if the payout is fat, the employer expects you to be connected all the time – my suggestion, kick the job or the employer as in try really hard to keep that time for just general chilling and other work beyond actual work. Shut all push mail notifications, try avoiding calls from work, if you are in a position of power, try not bothering people; if nothing else, you will get a shit load of blessings & goodwill.

Step 4: Take your interest and try giving the same some time. In my case food & video games. Weekends with Rachita are spent cooking, watching TV serials and playing video games. Also a big part of the week is spent deciding what to do over the weekend so then there is always something to look forward too. Also if you have have Saturday’s working, whether alternate or regulars, please quit your job with immediate effect – plain & simple. Trust me your lives will be much happier – a job you will get either today or tomorrow trust me on the same. Also on holidays, keep everything shut. Period. Life will be beautiful.

Always a Good Idea

Step 5: Make it a point to go out once or twice a week for drinks or food, meet friends and all that jazz. Somehow this will just help you go through the week better as beginning of the week you have something to plan & look forward to and post the midweek meeting, the end of week will also be closer… ha ha ha ha ha! Also from time to time, try and do something which might be spontaneous & random….that definitely is an unmatched feeling which carries on for days…

All said and done, if anger & frustration gets the better of you, like it is for me, separate work life from personal life. Do fun things which you enjoy when you are not at work, don’t bring work home and even if you don’t have a choice there, try easing up the frequency. If you can create your own silver lining to the cloud, then you will be home safe & happy!!! Having said all of this, I got into a review meeting and got severly outraged basis an argument, and most of what I have written went for a toss so re-read it again now feeling a bit better…

General Chilling Weekend

So there has been no update basis the weekend. This weekend’shappenings and the delay is totally because we had the NBA Playoffs happeningand also that post went up on priority. Having said that, the weekend was totallyawesome and spent with friends and family. The details for the same are mentioned – do have a read as they not only include bike rides, drinking and coolstuff, but also some awesome burritos & cheesecake happenings!

Nariman Point

King Fisher Ultra Time!!!

Awesome Beer Glass!!!

Started off on Friday, more or less planning Friday, as there were friends going to be over and the evening was planned around alcohol and general chilling. Saturday started off with a bike ride past Nariman Point, through Marine Drive also went in & around kemps corner, peddar road and mahalakshmi.Got home and finished the mundane chores and then spent the better half of the day with Rachita ordering food, alcohol & other things required for the party . Please note, Ritika, Suneel, Vishal & Ekta were going to be over forthe party. The best part of living in India is that everything is only a call away; called relevant stores, got veggies delivered home, got bloody mary mixes, philedelphia cheese, nacho chips and all delivered home! Didn’t need to move a muscle! Vishal was kind enough to order the magic box of beers which had 18 Kingfisher Ultras & about 6 Budweisers as Suneel drinks only Bud! Post watching Supernatural & Vampire Diaries Season 3 & a quick nap, 4 was the time by which everyone decided to come over and the party began!!! Started off drinking beers and trying to make sheesha with some bad flavours as the flavours in stock were exhausted… Ritika madesome decently bad sheesha which we had and then moved on to drinking more beers.

Cheese Cake!!!

World Best Nachos!

Post that, got ravenously hungry so Rachita was kind enoughto make us some awesome Tortilla Chips with Cheese Sauce (Nachos)! We got some ready made corn chips from a company called Cornitos and made some cheese sauce at home – killer combination people! You can try the same at your end with Doritos or any other local corn chips available. Also during the beer and sheesha session, Rachita was preparing an awesome cheesecake (check the pictures for the same above). Also dinner was being managed by her which was super bean burritos… Dinner was done which was absolutely sensational & delicious & post that camethe super dessert session which was unreal!!! Then all of us were zoning and decided to call it a night as we were decently high… Sunday morning started with cleaning the bike and sorting the bike cover, etc. as the rains arearound the corner. Decided to watch some D-grade movie called Hate Story which was pleasantly decent, post which most of the day was spent watching Supernatural season 4 which we finished where in Lucifer was being resurrected! Totally awesome, guys! Must watch! Can’t wait to get my hands on season 5.

Sensational Burritos!

Also, as mentioned, started Vampire Diaries season 3 which did turn out to be very interesting. Finally dinner was spent in true gujju style eating Khakhra Sandwich. Khakhra Sandwich is basically made using Roti’s whichare made crisp post double roasting like tortillas and then regular sandwich filling is put between 2 roti’s to make an ultimate khakhra sandwich! Finally, to close an awesome & well rested weekend, Rachita & I watched JohnCarter, which according to us was pretty damn good and closed the weekend…

The Greatest Movie Ever

Yesterday we went and watched The Avengers. Below is our review & experience of one of, if not the greatest, Super Hero movies ever.

The day started with an unusual amount of excitement, The regular morning activities were completed in a hurry; Bike ride, some office work, blog post and so on. We left for Metro (the theatre) at about 10 in the morning (early morning show to avoid crowds – we hate crowded theaters).. it’s now called Big Cinema but we still call it Metro. I will not bore you with other details, let’s move on to the review.

Super Awesomeness!!!

Greatest Movie Ever!

The movie begins with an awesome sequence introducing Nick Fury and Loki. To be honest, I was apprehensive about Nick Fury; how would his character hold his ground against the Big Boys, but Samuel Jackson delivers a commanding performance through the entire movie. From there, the director Joss Whedon takes his time to introduce all the characters: Thor, Ironman, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Captain America and The Hulk – now this would be a painful experience in any other movie, but this is The Avengers and it is poetry in motion, executed seamlessly with each character getting screen time and showing off his back story and his skill set. Marvel has made sure that even people who have not seen any of the earlier movies will quickly know each and every character. The story takes it share of twists and turns from there due to which The Avengers assemble and take on the menace of Loki to save the world. If I was to break it up, the first half of the film is dedicated to building up the characters, the second half is dedicated to unleashing their awesome force on screen.

.

Crazy Action

What stands out in the entire movie is the how each character interacts with the other, for example Mark Ruffalo and Robert Downey Jr. on screen together is just unreal! While on Ruffalo, have to admit, he is the greatest Hulk ever! We had our doubts when they initially announced he would replace Ed Norton but he delivers a performance that will keep you begging for more. The tech displayed in the movie is truly amazing, Iron Man getting out of his costume, migrating the S.H.I.EL.D data into his systems is a joy to watch for all the nerds/geeks out there. Thor delivers a performance which is God like, nothing more to say there. Black Widow, Captain America and Hawkeye all hold their ground in the movie – this considering they have limited Super/Mechanical Powers. They takeover complete scenes and will have you clapping just like you will do for their Super Power/Mechanically driven counterparts.

Killer Combination!

The movie is a fan’s dream come true: the dialogues are witty and the actors delivery/timings are spot on. While we have never yelled or clapped in an English film, The Avengers got us to do that. What is amazing is the audience in the theatre was made up of kids, teenagers and older people, they all pretty much had the same reactions. The true hero of the movie are its action sequences – they are believable and add to the legend of each of the Avengers – the final battle will have you on the edge of your seat for sure.

The Real Life Heroes

We have tried very hard to keep this review spoiler free – our recommendation, go watch The Avengers, it is an amazing experience. 2D vs 3D? We would suggest 2D. The movie is a convert and but note the 3D version is one of the best converts out there for sure. If you have the inclination, do read up a little about the Heroes before watching the movie (You can read our older post “Beyond the Avenger(S) for details), it will definitely add to the awesome, insane, unreal experience that is The Avengers.

The Extended Weekend Part 1

Colaba Defense Station

As the title of this post suggests, we are enjoying an extended weekend 🙂  Conisdering Saturday, Sunday was off, Monday we took leave from work & tomorrow is 1st May Labour Day so Holiday!!! 4 days of total bliss… Too much good stuff has happened in the past 2 days & lots more to happen in the coming 48 hours so this post has 2 parts.

Superb Roads at Colaba Defense Station

Saturday  morning bike ride was absolutely spectacular; I was riding past Marine Drive and decided to go towards Colaba, enroute came across Colaba Defense Station. Most of the morning then was spent exploring the same: beautiful roads, greenery, some crazy tanks & turrets on display and just sheer bliss as the place was quiet and all you heard was the bike engine and felt the wind on your face. If you  are in Bombay and are looking at a place to go ride I strongly suggest Colaba Defense Station…it is an experience.

Got back home post that and then Mihir took the bike out where the saddle bags on the bike ripped off and tore… This meant a trip to the chop shop, went there at about 11:00am found Guddu, my mechanic. Told him the problem then went to Jayseshbhai my fabricater & accesory manager got a new pair of saddle bags which were now fixed with new brackets so they dont fall apart. Also, Jayesh a got chrome Eagle totum put on the front fendor. Guddu also got the bike washed and polished. While the bike was being fixed we went out for lunch to All Stir Fry at Colaba as uncle & aunt were leaving for foreign.  Reaching there we realized the place has shut down. Moved to Bellagio, a quaint eatery opposite central library, ordered some good pizza, pastas, etc. and finished lunch. On the way back, went to the chop shop & got the bike back which was looking super cool!

The Eagle has Landed

Sunday Morning Bike Ride View

Saturday evening was spent bottling home made beer and drinking some of the same…… turned out to be a well rounded stout which was superb. (through the week will be posting a detailed aticle on brewing beer at home). Dinner with Family and emo moments seeing off uncle off was the end to Saturday. Bike Ride on Sunday was past Bandra reclamation which is one of my most favorite places to ride the bike. Post that, there was Astro”s (our little pet cocker spaniel) bath & general chilling. Then Mihir & I were deciding whether we get a dual ehaust and a new silencer fitted on the bike; conclusion we will be getting that done soon will keep you posted. Afternoon was spent in true biker style guzzling home brewd beer having sheesha with the Aashay (cousin from pune) & the passing out .

Home Brewed Beer

Evening we tried watching a horror flick called 7 below which was horrifying 🙂 and was shut in about 40 minutes of being started. More Alcohol was had post which the Mrs & me made Fries & Roti Rolls with hot Sauce for the family. Supernatural was watched to end the day; though, this time the end of day was not a downer considering Monday & Tuesday were also holidays. Also today we are going to watch Avengers; and as a prelude to the same, we revisited and saw Captain America, Thor, Hulk & Iron Man Movies over the weekend which was, if i do say so myself, sensational!!!
