The Super Bike & Food Weekend

It’s been a while since I wrote about the weekend that was; the weekend that just went by was pretty damn awesome & so I decided to write about the same. Friday evening started off with some general chilling at home didn’t do much just marathoned Supernatural season 7 with Rachita. Also the plan for next days lunch was being figured with Ritika. Before I forget, Friday evening we also started playing Sleeping Dogs on the Xbox360 which was awesome. The game has a brilliant feel and has hints of Yakuza & Shenmue, 2 of our all time favorite games!

Goo & Avenjer ignore the cycle ūüôā Lol!!!

Sleeping Dogs on the Xbox360

Astro!!!

Saturday, though, began with a bang as I had 2 bikes at my disposal – Ekta’s Royal Enfield & my Bajaj Avenger – Ekta was in Baroda for the weekend & had left her bike at my place. Gaurav & I took the bikes out for a ride which was totally awesome! We rode past Haji Ali & Worli Seaface braving the rains; when we started there wasn’t an iota of rain, but when we reached Peddar Road it started drizzling; Gaurav & I decided to continue as the drizzle wasn’t fazing us. On the way back from Haji Ali, though, there was a decent downpour which we managed & reached home safe. Post some general chilling, shower, etc. we played some more Sleeping Dogs on the Xbox360, exploring the open world finishing mini missions, etc.¬†Come 9:30am we needed to take Astro to the vet for a general check up & then meet Ritika, Mihir & Yooti for lunch. We were done at the vet by about 11:00am & proceeded for lunch after dropping Ash home :-). So lunch was going to happen at Soul Fry Casa, a restaurant serving Goan food at Fountain / Kala Ghoda. Ritika, though, was not informed about the same, as whenever we have decided to go to this restaurant or discussed going there, something or the other has gone wrong. This time we decided to keep the POA a suprise. Ritzzzz met Mihir at Churchgate station on the pretext of going to some place around that area and once Mihir got her around the restaurant he whisked her in. She was pleaseantly surprised, if I may say so myself.

Love the Ambiance at Casa Soul Fry

Beer!!!

Pickle!!!

Moving onto the restaurant which has a brilliant old world charm with memoriabilia across the walls; also the furniture is from an era which you just dont see nowadays. The plates & glasses you get are of copper, menu has a good balance of Veg, Non Veg & Sea Food. We decided to start off with a few drinks – I was having beer, Mihir had ordered a brilliant sugarcane based cocktail, Ritika was having a watermelon Martini, Yooti ordered a Vodka based cocktail the¬†name of which i cannot remember & Rachita who doesn’t drink alco was having a mocktail. Ritika & Mihir had already ordered some Prawns & Rawas, Rachita added to the same by ordering some chicken moelho. Please note here, Mihir &¬†I haven’t had prawns in about 20 years as I have an allergy to the same. Though once the food was on the table, we decided to try the prawns which were exceptional and also eat the Rawas which was divine. Lunch ordered was some chicken in red gravy & because we ate shell fish everyone got super excited that there was no allergic reaction and ordered a crab sukha with some nans. The food was simply awesome! We went through everything & loved every moment of it. Special mention to the Naans which are the best I have ever had. If you are in the fountain area, then you must try Soul Fry Casa it is CUMPOLSORY!!!

Awesome Spread!!!

Then headed home, slept for a bit, while Ritika & Rachita went shopping. Evening dinner was Falafal which Rachita had made. The brilliance of the same cannot be explained. After dinner, watched some UFC on Sony Six, then moved to Supernatural and then passed out.

Sunday Bike Ride!!!

Yummy!!!!

Sunday morning started off with an early morning bike ride on Ekta’s Royal Enfield aka Goo, which was followed by another bike ride on my Bajaj Avenger, aka Avenjer. The weather was perfect, cloudy skies accompanied by some sensational winds…. Marine Drive, Nariman Point, Haji Ali & Worli Seaface were passed on both bikes one after the other…. rode for a good hour & half :-). Once home, finished Astro’s bath, then played Sleeping Dogs again for a bit, Also helped Mihir pack as he was heading for a week’s vacation. Lunch in true gujju style was sev tameta nu shak (fried gram dough noodles in tomato gravy); then it was nap time. Woke in the afternoon, watched some Supernatural again, had a few beers. For dinner, Rachita decided to make some super duper awesome boiled egg sandwiches with tomatoes, iceberg lettuce, onions, her blend of secret herbs & eggs marinated in mayo & mustard. Matlab mouth watering awesomeness it was! Again watched some more episodes of Supernatural and then passed out. All in all, a brilliant food & bike weekend ūüôā

The Food Fest

Crazy Bombay Rains!!!

Yesterday was crazy considering the awesome food places we went to for both lunch & dinner – it was super awesome so decided to write about it on the blog.¬†So the way this played out was that the morning was totally crazy with the city being lashed by heavy rains. Somehow Rachita, Mihir & me rode through the same & reached work. While at work, got random calls basis traffic jams across the city, also social media was going crazy about the jams, etc. We decided to leave early by lunch so as to avoid the traffic nightmare. Though come noon, the day suddenly was bright & sunny and there wasn’t an iota or indication of rains.

Yummy Salad!!!

This is when we decided to go for lunch at the local mall. On reaching Inorbit, we were contemplating where to eat considering the amount of options availiable, right from the Food Court which offers everything from Mcdonalds, Subway, Tibbs Frankie, etc., to stand alone places like Kareem’s and Pot Pourri. After much contemplation, we finally decided to go to Pot Pourri. Rachita & me have been to the place before – some time ago – but Mihir hadn’t and thus the excitment. At Pot Pourri we realized they had a buffet for lunch which was for Rs 440/-. Mihir & I opted for the same while Rachita ordered a chicken prep off the menu.

Pretty Damn Good!!!

On the Buffet counter, there were 2 soups to choose from, the veg and non veg. We had the pumpkin &¬† chicken soup, post which Mihir went and got some awesome salad of the live counter, the same was super yum! After soups & salad, we decided to try the pizza – the same, unfortunately, wasn’t that good. It was a bit dry & cold, also the sauce on top barely had any flavor. Moved to the main course wherein there was pasta, rice, madras curry, korean chicken & rice. I opted for some korean chicken & rice, Mihir opted for the pasta, fish curry & korean chicken. The main course was total value for taste & money & was devoured in minutes & then finally there was dessert, which was Tiramisu & Orange Souffle. The same was also pretty nice! Overall, the experience was extremely pleasant – the ambiance of the place is casual & the waiters are also extremely helpful and polite. That just takes a simple lunch experience to another level. Even though we didn’t drink, we checked & the Alcohol is well priced & the menu for the same is decently extensive.

Our Rating for this place:

Superb Stuff!!!

Steak , Chips & Barbecued Onions!!!

Post the lunch, the evening was something we were still super excited about as the POA was to go to our favorite Sizzler place in town – Kobe Sizzlers. While this was going to be a family affair, the promise of Sensational Steak & other goodies available there were definitely upside. Reached Kobe by about 7:30pm with the jing bang of about 16 people. Kobe doesn’t take bookings so it is first come first serve based policy, Oh ya! the 16 people included the in-laws and our immediate family. Everyone more or less ordered Sizzlers except for Mihir & me who weren’t so keen on sizzlers as we wanted to eat some hard core yummy steak, biker style! ūüôā Went ahead and ordered a steak bun & also an egg & cheese bun to start with. The same was totally awesome – bread just rightly roasted on the pan and the egg with cheese in between just totally brilliant! The steak bun was totally in another league as with every bite you could taste the yumminess. Post this, we ordered a portion of steak, chips & onions to end our meal. The main course absolutely stunning, as you can see in the picture. Also a note for people who don’t like their meat too hardcore, if you are at Kobe’s and ordering, do not¬†order the steak, go for chicken instead, though if you are the hardcore variety, do not miss the steak! The Sizzlers are to die for at Kobe& they¬†customize them to your taste. Also the burgers are super juicy succulent & all the wonderfull things you expect.¬†Finally, after being stuffed silly, walked home which is about a 1 km away¬†& called it a night.

Brilliant Steak Bun!!!

We Ride & We Eat

This is where this post begins…

Raju Omelette!

By now most of you have figured that post the whole biking experience the next thing which we obsess about is food ūüôā Also continuing from the last few weeks where bike rides have come to a stand still due to rains in Bombay, most of our lives are revolving around food. Today’s post is also about food and mainly it takes off from a post last week “The Rainy Weekend” wherein Rachita had made the most awesome Omelette Pav (bread) even surpassing the great Raju Omlet of Baroda. For all you egg lovers and foodies, the below post is a must read and also if you are travelling to Baroda then you have to visit this destination.

One of my most favorite places in the city of Baroda and the one I recommend to all my family & friends who visit the city is Raju Omlet.¬†This is an iconic¬† place run by Mr. Raju and thus the name for people who didn‚Äôt get it.. ¬†My first visit to this place was around 2 years ago basis my in-laws recommendation. The place clearly didn‚Äôt disappoint and thus the visit back. This time around, I carried my ¬†camera so as to capture all the awesome sites of the legendary “Raju Omlet.”

So back to the main story ‚Äď

We ordered Everything!!!

Raju Omlet, from what I hear, started off many years ago as a small cart which has now evolved into this one small restaurant.¬†Please note, the food available here is only egg preparations – the most famous being OMELETTE and thus the name ‚ÄúRaju Omlet‚ÄĚ,¬†As soon as you enter the compound, you can smell fresh butter and hear it sizzling on the tava‚Ķ Loads of people sitting around staring down at their plates with a singular focus of devouring the food.¬†As soon as you walk towards the order counter, you can see the menu which has a selected few options ‚Äď egg bhurji, egg rice, bolied egg masala, etc. and also egg omelette, which is the trademark dish.¬†So out of pure desperation and hunger, we (accompanied by in-laws and the Mrs) ordered everything on the menu. Post ordering everything, felt very proud and cool considering people at the cash counter looked at us in amazement!

.

This is Heaven!!!

Egg Bhurji

Also next to the counter was this gigantic tava with Rajubhai (you guessed it! he is the gentlemen who owns this place) cooking some awesome stuff!!!.¬†I kid you not, he put in 500 gms of butter on the pan, broke a few eggs on it, added tomatoes, chilli, garam masala and made 3 plates from the same!!! That‚Äôs when we realized this was not going to be a meal for the faint of heart.¬†Please note, to accompany most items on the menu, there is Pav soaked in butter, soaked to such an extent that in the shine of the same you can see your face – brilliantly delicious! Moving on to the food, we had the bhurji floating in butter, boiled egg masala and egg rice which were worth mentioning. The other dishes were spin offs of these and strictly average.¬†Though post eating all the dishes on the menu, it was time for the trademark omelette.¬†So this it 2 portions of Pav (bread for you firangs) soaked in butter and sliced omelette sandwiched between them served piping hot!!!¬†The taste….unmatched!!! We went through multiple portions of the same in like minutes.¬†Side by side, took loads of photos to confirm the claims of butter utilization, limited menu and brilliant food.¬†Also took a photograph of Rajubhai, the owner, who in his moment of attempted humor, said he was worried that because of his picture being available someone would kidnap him! Lol!!!¬†All in all, this is a must place for people visiting Baroda to go and eat ‚Äď its simple and totally brilliant!

.

Though, the butter and its quantity does take away a few years of life‚Ķ though totally worth it ūüôā

Insane Amounts of Butter!!!

The Legend Mr Raju Bhai!!!

Mainland Bikers

If you remember the post on Monday, 23rd of April, 2012, we had spoken about Rachita’s birthday celebrations at Mainland China. In today’s post, we write about our experience at one of the finest eateries in South Bombay.

Mainland China

Awesome Ambiance

After the morning bike ride & post multiple discussions last weekend and where we should go to celebrate the Mrs. birthday we zeroed in on Mainland China. Although we have been to this place loads of time we decided to revisit the same. Reached there by about 12:30pm. Fortunately the restaurant is situated 10 minutes from where we leave at SOBO Central Mall, off Haji Ali in South Bombay. Going up in the elevator to the 2nd floor of the mall there was the distinct smell of food being cooked across the ground floor & even in the lift. At one point we did laugh about the fact that the building was on fire.

At the entrance, we were¬†greeted by the manager who¬†recognized¬†us as regulars and gave us a quiet place in the corner of the restaurant. Walked in, got seated, were welcomed by an extremely polite staff of waiters. Here let me take a moment to describe the decor. It has a nice warm feel, I personally like the fact that the restaurant is not too brightly lit; it has a nice dingy feel. Also there are Ming Dynasty Vases and¬†Statutes around and chandeliers which do not have any implication basis china ūüôā Back to the celebrations now! As all bikers do, I ordered my daily fix of beer………. Mihir, Rachita & Yooti ordered mocktails. The bar here is priced reasonably, though like most places Beer is the cheapest. Also there is a decent selection of Whiskys, Rum, Vodka, etc. the normal stuff. There was also some herbal tea given to the ladies basis request. Side by side the kimchi, which according to us is the bestest ever, was being devoured.

Crazy Spicy Chicken

Important point to note, we all love spicy food…the hotter the better. No soup was ordered though the normal Sweet Corn, Chicken, Talu Meian, etc. are¬†available¬†on the menu. We ordered crispy fried sichuan chicken with smoked chillies and peanuts which was crazily spicy (please see the picture of the chillies), the beer here was a life safer ūüôā ¬†there was also some lemon¬†potatoes¬†ordered & konjee crispy lamb. The chicken &¬†potato¬†were absolutely spectacular the Lamb though had a smell which was a bit fishy, the same was highlighted to the¬†Stuart who replaced the same with the greatest lamb preparation humankind has seen – the cumin lamb :). While all of this was happening, plans for the evening celebrations were also being discussed & Rachita’s & mine first bike ride date also was the topic of discussion. Main course was sapo tofu vegetable and some fragrant pot fried rice. The same was just perfect!

The overall menu at Mainland China offers a¬†variety¬†of different foods which caters to all¬†palettes: Lamb, Chicken, Fish & Vegeteable. Startes &¬†main courses are brilliant, also a special note here to the service which is absolutely exceptional; not even in 5 star hotels do you get this kind of treatment. Remember the konjee Lamb we gave back & got the cumin lamb instead? Well, post our main course, we did not order any dessert as we were decently stuffed. We asked for the check. Though, to our surprise, we¬†received¬†a platter of¬†chocolate¬†spring-rolls¬†complimentary. Boss! Free food… That being the first feeling let me tell you the desert was absolutely and totally awesome!

Exceptional Maincourse

All in all we highly recommend this place if you are in South Bombay and have a craving for Chinese food, Mainland is one of the finest places you can visit, add to that the service & trust me, you wont be disappointed.

Our Rating РPlease note this is basis Km 10 to 100 (10 being the lowest & 100 being the highest)

Ambience – 85km

Service – 94km

Food – 92km

Burn – 80 km (Just about affordable)

Badbikegang Average Speed – 87.75 we give it an 88

This One’s Smokin

If you remember the post on Monday “Chronicles of the Weekend” it briefly spoke about Smoke House Deli, Today we at Badbikegang are writing about our experiences at this eatery as it happens to be our current favorite -We have already visited this place about 6 times in 3 weeks with friends & family ūüôā

Smoke House Deli

SHD is located at Phoneix Mills. As soon as we  entered the place our immediate attention went to the decor as the restaurant is completely white with sketching on the  walls, also once you go beyond the reservation desk on your left there is this amazing display gallery unit storing Wines, Beers, Coldcuts, Fish, Packaged foods and sensational desserts!!!

The Embarrassing Glass of Water...

To your right is an open kitchen where chefs are hard at work. chopping veggies, plating food etc. Seating is across tables with chairs and if you pick the tables against the wall there are sofas as well. We picked the one with the sofa, post sitting comfortably we were greeted by  a polite waiter who asked us regular water or mineral. (Who in their sane mind goes for mineral water! The cost is out of whack) we went for regular. Basis the request we were given water in glasses where in I saw some dirt floating in the glass, Immediately the waiter was called and asked WTF at which point the waiter told us that the water was gently flavored with fresh orange &  mint and thus particles of the same were floating in the glass. Ok the embarrassing moment for the day had happened! We looked at each other and laughed hysterically.

Brilliant Bacon!!!

Menu was then given which more or less comprised of Soups, Egg Preps, Pancakes, Bacon, Sausages etc on the breakfast page, main course page consisted of Steak, Lamb, Chicken, Potato preparations. Forgot to add there was also a drinks menu given though post evaluating prices we ordered a couple of Budweisers which were the cheapest. All in all the variety of wines, cocktails & beers is insane but steep.

Some Vanilla Pancakes, Peri Peri Chicken, Steak, Chilli Dog, Chicken Burger, Bacon & more was the order, the staff was well trained and assisted in helping us with the order & recommendations. The order was served in about 10 minutes while we sipped on the pint & some mocktails which were ordered.

The food as you can see in the pictures was well plated and more importanlty spectacular, each dish seemed to be put together well with balanced and flavorful tastes. Special mention here to the Bacon which was¬†unbelievable. Bikes, Bikers, Babes, Bacon & Bucks rule!!! You know the food is good when there is pin drop silence on the table and all you hear is¬†cutlery,¬†¬†the silence is broken only when you hear things like “you have to try this it’s brilliant, oh this ones even better” etc

Wow Pancakes!!!

Finally some plum flavored philedelphia cheese cake was ordered the same was unbelievable!!! It melted as soon as it touched the tongue. Finally paid the bill & left with the promise of returning. If you are in the vicinity this place is a must visit.

Our Rating РPlease note this is basis Km 10 to 100 (10 being the lowest & 100 being the highest)

Ambience – 82km

Service – 88km

Food – 92km

Burn – 80km (This place is not cheap)

Badbikegang Average Speed – 85.5

Super Duper Chicken!!!
