The Weekend , Bike Ride & Food Update

Sausage & Meat Yummmyness!!!

Goo!

This weekend was pretty crazy, with a lot of things happening beyond the normal R & C (resting & chilling). Beyond thee pictures attached, do also check out the slide show below for all the brilliant & yummy pictures. Started off the same early Friday afternoon, wherein post work from our fort office, Vishal & I decided to head to Mocambo’s which is a restaurant opposite our office and have a few pints. Reached there, zeroed in on Miller, which we had drunk in Goa, though now the same was in Bombay so happiness happened! We had a few pints; from there, we decided to head to Kobe’s for lunch. Mihir & Rachita also joined us for lunch. Sizzlers were had which were pretty awesome – Sausage Sizzler, Hamburger Steak Sizzler & Nasi goreng which is a rice based Sizzler were devoured. Post this, we finished some work and then were going to crash at our relevant homes. Please note, Ekta wasn’t there as she was in Sanpada and post that was heading to Baroda. In the evening, I got a call from Ekta saying she is not going to Baroda and that she will be going the next day on her bike… Full on drinking session happened post that with Rum & beer, post which we passed out. Ekta got up the next day by 4:00 a.m. and left for Baroda.

Basilico

Miller!!!

Saturday morning started off with deciding a brunch date with the Mrs. We decided to go to Colaba & then figure a place to go and eat. Post loitering across Colaba Causeway we decided to go to Basilico. Reached Basilico by 11:30 a.m., the place was pretty empty. Rachita ordered a Ginger Cooler & I had some Orange Pekoe Tea (Yup! I had tea, as Basilico doesn’t serve Alcoholic Beverages); also by then we had called Anushka & asked her to join us. While waiting for her, we ordered a Cajun Chicken Salad which was superb! Once Anushka aka Anus arrived, we bitched about a lot of general things and then ordered some Chicken & Steak for our mains. Also ordered some insanely yummy Pizza & finally ended the leisurely brunch with a New York Syle Cheese Cake. For those who don’t know the difference between Philedelphia & New York Cheesecake, Philly is Baked while NY is steamed :-). The afternoon was spent sleeping, woke up and then went for an awesome bike ride past Marine Drive & Nariman Point, got home & figured Rachita had made some awesome burritos for dinner. The dinner spread was awesome – there was sour cream, guacamole, salsa, refried beans & tortilla’s for dinner. Also to top all of that, Rachita made some super duper cheesecake (eggless, that too!). Post the crazily awesome dinner, we watched a few episode of Game of Thrones Season 2 & passed out.

Worlds Best Burrito!!!

Baked Cheese Cake!!!

Awesomeness!!!

Sunday morning started off with Astro’s walk, then bath as always. Then there was a session of personal grooming in the bathroom, accompanied by some dhinchak regional music. Played a session of Sleeping Dogs on the Xbox360 with Mihir before heading to the inlaws for brunch. Please to note, Rachita had baked cheesecake for the brunch as well :-). There were some awesome dosas made for brunch which were eaten; again, overate so went home and passed out. Woke up, went for bike ride, which was superb considering Sunday evenings Marine Drive & Nariman Point is always packed with people so sights & sounds were ever so intresting. Came home, played NBA2k12 & UFC Undisputed on the Xbox360 while listening to some Blues & Jazz by Muddy Waters, BB King & Eric Clapton. Dinner was some chinese ordered from China Gate at Atria Mall. On the ordered list was some Hunan Wanton Soup, Crispy Fried Potatoes, Burnt Garlic Pot Rice, Shezwan Mein foon (Rice noodles), Sui Mai & Stir Fried Chinese Greens. Post dinner, watched some UFC on Sony Six & finally ended the day with a few episodes of Game of Thrones season 2. Woke up Monday morning, realized the weather was good and went for a bike ride & some photagraphy which is featured in the slide show below. All in all, a great weekend which has set a precedence for the others to come 😉

The Super Bike & Food Weekend

It’s been a while since I wrote about the weekend that was; the weekend that just went by was pretty damn awesome & so I decided to write about the same. Friday evening started off with some general chilling at home didn’t do much just marathoned Supernatural season 7 with Rachita. Also the plan for next days lunch was being figured with Ritika. Before I forget, Friday evening we also started playing Sleeping Dogs on the Xbox360 which was awesome. The game has a brilliant feel and has hints of Yakuza & Shenmue, 2 of our all time favorite games!

Goo & Avenjer ignore the cycle 🙂 Lol!!!

Sleeping Dogs on the Xbox360

Astro!!!

Saturday, though, began with a bang as I had 2 bikes at my disposal – Ekta’s Royal Enfield & my Bajaj Avenger – Ekta was in Baroda for the weekend & had left her bike at my place. Gaurav & I took the bikes out for a ride which was totally awesome! We rode past Haji Ali & Worli Seaface braving the rains; when we started there wasn’t an iota of rain, but when we reached Peddar Road it started drizzling; Gaurav & I decided to continue as the drizzle wasn’t fazing us. On the way back from Haji Ali, though, there was a decent downpour which we managed & reached home safe. Post some general chilling, shower, etc. we played some more Sleeping Dogs on the Xbox360, exploring the open world finishing mini missions, etc. Come 9:30am we needed to take Astro to the vet for a general check up & then meet Ritika, Mihir & Yooti for lunch. We were done at the vet by about 11:00am & proceeded for lunch after dropping Ash home :-). So lunch was going to happen at Soul Fry Casa, a restaurant serving Goan food at Fountain / Kala Ghoda. Ritika, though, was not informed about the same, as whenever we have decided to go to this restaurant or discussed going there, something or the other has gone wrong. This time we decided to keep the POA a suprise. Ritzzzz met Mihir at Churchgate station on the pretext of going to some place around that area and once Mihir got her around the restaurant he whisked her in. She was pleaseantly surprised, if I may say so myself.

Love the Ambiance at Casa Soul Fry

Beer!!!

Pickle!!!

Moving onto the restaurant which has a brilliant old world charm with memoriabilia across the walls; also the furniture is from an era which you just dont see nowadays. The plates & glasses you get are of copper, menu has a good balance of Veg, Non Veg & Sea Food. We decided to start off with a few drinks – I was having beer, Mihir had ordered a brilliant sugarcane based cocktail, Ritika was having a watermelon Martini, Yooti ordered a Vodka based cocktail the name of which i cannot remember & Rachita who doesn’t drink alco was having a mocktail. Ritika & Mihir had already ordered some Prawns & Rawas, Rachita added to the same by ordering some chicken moelho. Please note here, Mihir & I haven’t had prawns in about 20 years as I have an allergy to the same. Though once the food was on the table, we decided to try the prawns which were exceptional and also eat the Rawas which was divine. Lunch ordered was some chicken in red gravy & because we ate shell fish everyone got super excited that there was no allergic reaction and ordered a crab sukha with some nans. The food was simply awesome! We went through everything & loved every moment of it. Special mention to the Naans which are the best I have ever had. If you are in the fountain area, then you must try Soul Fry Casa it is CUMPOLSORY!!!

Awesome Spread!!!

Then headed home, slept for a bit, while Ritika & Rachita went shopping. Evening dinner was Falafal which Rachita had made. The brilliance of the same cannot be explained. After dinner, watched some UFC on Sony Six, then moved to Supernatural and then passed out.

Sunday Bike Ride!!!

Yummy!!!!

Sunday morning started off with an early morning bike ride on Ekta’s Royal Enfield aka Goo, which was followed by another bike ride on my Bajaj Avenger, aka Avenjer. The weather was perfect, cloudy skies accompanied by some sensational winds…. Marine Drive, Nariman Point, Haji Ali & Worli Seaface were passed on both bikes one after the other…. rode for a good hour & half :-). Once home, finished Astro’s bath, then played Sleeping Dogs again for a bit, Also helped Mihir pack as he was heading for a week’s vacation. Lunch in true gujju style was sev tameta nu shak (fried gram dough noodles in tomato gravy); then it was nap time. Woke in the afternoon, watched some Supernatural again, had a few beers. For dinner, Rachita decided to make some super duper awesome boiled egg sandwiches with tomatoes, iceberg lettuce, onions, her blend of secret herbs & eggs marinated in mayo & mustard. Matlab mouth watering awesomeness it was! Again watched some more episodes of Supernatural and then passed out. All in all, a brilliant food & bike weekend 🙂

Friday the 13th Trip

Last week on Friday the 13th, Rachita, Ekta & me were heading to work. 15 Minutes away from office we decided to take a detour and head to Panvel which is just off Vashi / New Bombay to have some awesome Vada Pav’s, Missal, etc. There is this quaint but extremely popular eatery called “Dutta Snacks”. Before we move forward, for people who dont know what Vada Pav is, check the image below and also the wikipedia description. Vada pav (Marathi: वड़ा पाव), sometimes spelled wada pav, is a popular vegetarian fast food dish native to the Indian state of Maharashtra. It consists of a batata vada sandwiched between 2 slices of a pav. The compound word batata vada refers in Marathi and Gujarati to a vada (fritter) made out of batata, the latter referring to a potato. Pav refers to unsweetened bread or bun. Vada pav was supposedly devised by snack vendor Ashok Vaidya outside Dadar station in 1971.

Best Vada Pav Ever!!!

Brilliant Open Roads

Doesn’t get any better!!!

Moving on, so post deciding we are going to be heading to Dutta Vada the excitment was immense and uncontrolabale 🙂 the weather was perfect – cloudy, raining and nice & cool! We started to go towards the express highway from vashi & took a turn just before the expressway bridge, the turn connects to the road to Panvel. The road leading to this place is simply amazing, super empty with scenic view of hills and in this season the greenery, etc. is simply brilliant!!! All through the journey we were listening to hardcore Bollywood music, also multiple discussions on random stuff was happening. Ekta, our in-house Google Maps expert, was helping navigate the route. After about 25 minutes of driving from Vashi, we finally reached our destination, parked our car, and then went in for the order…

Our Destination!!!

The Circle where the Dutta Vada is…

The Place is situated at a circle and in a quaint corner next to a garage. Though unassuming, this place draws in some serious crowds basis legacy, quality & taste of food served. Also considering it was a Friday, there was a decent crowd as you had people travelling to short destinations for a weekend getway. While the women went to freshen up, I ordered a couple of plates of Vada Pav, Missal & Sabudana Khichdi. Post getting the order & finding a quiet corner to eat, we devoured the food pretty damn fast as it was totally awesome! Vada Pav & Missal to die for though I didn’t like the Sabudana Khichdi as it was covered with Peanuts. Post the brunch we decided to pack some stuff for colleagues & head back to work… The drive back was absolutely unreal considering we are super excited about the fact that we had actually gone through with a random plan, ditched / postponed work gone had some awesome food, add to that we were listening to music from Rowdy Rathore. Point to note here Ekta believes the first 3 songs of Rathore sound alike… Hmmmm Pagli hai bhai pagli (slightly crazy is the literal translation).

What a View!!!

I have also taken some amazing pictures of our trip which I have posted in the gallery below, do take a moment to check the same out. Also a sincere suggestion post our experience to all of you who read this is do try something like this occasionally, the same just changes your perspective on the day and in turn the week seems so much better. You dont have to go to a eatery only, there might  be days when you feel like having a icecream at work or you feel like leaving on a half day or whatever, my suggestion go with the feeling and see how things turn out. Trust me you won’t be dissapointed… Also what made this trip super sweet is that it happened on a Friday post which Saturday & Sunday happen which is totally Ulti Bakka!!!
